Registry

Instructions

Welcome to our registry! To buy an item, click on the "Buy" button in the right-hand column. The row containing that registry item will change so that others know the gift has been taken. Note - you're not actually buying the gift online, you're just telling others that it's no longer available. You need to go to a store yourself to purchase the item.

If you made a mistake or have changed your mind, click the "Unbuy" button. This puts the item up for grabs again. Note: The website keeps no record of who bought what, so you need to remember which items you said you would buy.

We appreciate all of your gifts, and thank you so much for your generosity. Remember that for us the greatest gift will be to spend this day with our friends and family. We hope that you'll try to come to our wedding, even if that means that you can't afford to buy us a gift.

Household items

For household items, we have decided not to register at a particular store. (it's been our experience that as soon as you mention the word "wedding", ordinary things get expensive). Instead, below are descriptions of items we would like. If we want the item to have a particular feature, we have specified so in the description. In some cases we give examples or make recommendations for where to find the item - but feel free to purchase something similar at another store.

Gifts can be brought to the wedding or shipped to us: 229 Berkeley Street, Toronto, ON M5A 2X3.

Item Description Picture Taken?
Sheet Set We'd like a 400 Thread-Count Queen-sized sheet set (flat sheet, fitted sheet, and two pillow cases). We would like something that is machine-washable in an ivory colour. Here's an example (although you don't need to buy this brand).
Towels We don't really need towels, but I've always wanted matching ones, rather than the mismatched hand-me-downs. A set with big fluffy bath towels, hand towels, and matching face cloths. Machine-washable of course. Our bathroom is beige/brown, and any colour that will go nicely without being too flashy (like a pale green, rust red, light blue). Here's an example.
Coffee maker with timer A 12-cup coffee maker with a timer, so that you can set it the night before and when you wake up your coffee is ready. (Together with our bread-maker on a timer, part of the plan to make waking up easier to the smell of fresh coffee and bread)
Wok We're looking for a good wok that is non-stick.
Cutlery A set of matching cutlery, enough to serve 8 people. (ie. each person should have a knife, fork, spoon, and dessert spoon). Dishwasher-safe.
Pie slice server I'm sure this item has a proper name, but I don't know it. The thing you would reach for if you wanted to serve a piece of pie.
Gravy ladle The small piece of cutlery that you put in the gravy bowl. mmm... gravy!
Tumblers x 8 Regular tumblers that you would use everyday, but also for a nice meal. Just some nice glasses. We won't tell you what to get. You have taste. If you like them, I'm sure we'll like them too.
Red wine glasses x 8 Every time Sarah and I get together we seem to lose another wine glass...
White wine glasses x 8 Same as above, but for white wine.
Mixing bowls with lids Set of various sized mixing bowls (small, medium, and large) with their own lids so that you can put them in the fridge if you don't eat all the contents. For example, IKEA has a set that sells for $7.99 - Click here for an example
Citris zester IKEA has one for $2.50
Citris juicer Not the electric version that you make power shakes with - just the small glass (or plastic) thing that you twist your lemon on to produce a tablespoon of lemon juice.
Melon baller Mmmm for all of those tasty fruit salads! IKEA sells one for $2.50
Rubber spatulas I have friends that use the word 'spatula' differently. I'm referring to a 'scraper' not a 'flipper'. Somehow Dustin and I manage to break rubber spatulas, so if you can find some sturdy ones, that would be great.
Rolling Pin Dustin still uses a wine bottle to roll out dough! But mmmmm, I sure love his bread.
Can opener One that looks like this , not one that looks like this . Definitely nothing electric - Micheline can't operate electric can openers.
Colandar A large colandar, preferrably metal. IKEA has one for $14.99 - Click here for an example
Knives A couple of good solid knives. One suitable for chopping vegetables, with a heafty weight that makes you feel powerful when you wield it. A smaller one for times when the big knife is just too big.
Round Casserole dish This is the one thing we're missing in our kitchen. I love to make casseroles, they're a real comfort food. Either the macaroni & cheese my mom used to make when we were kids, or the Blue Jeans casserole from my Grandma Manske's cookbook. The problem is that we only have square casserole dishes, and they just don't measure up to the deep round casserole dish of my childhood. One that's ovenproof (obviously), and has a glass lid, so you can look in the top while it's cooking, and put it straight in the fridge after the meal.
Baking sheet A non-stick baking sheet. Preferably with edges (to keep in drips when baking something that leaks).
Cooling racks Two cooling racks so we can cool cookies and muffins.
Springform cake pan Dustin tells me that he will make more Black Forest cakes and cheesecakes with a pan like this.
Pepper grider The pepper grinder is another one of those strange items that we seem to break easily. If you have a brand of pepper grinder that is working out for you, we'd love one!
Wine chiller For keeping out wine cool out on the back deck on a hot day. Just a small one please, that fits one bottle.
Tea infuser Is that what these things are called? The thing that you put loose tea leaves into to make a cup of tea.
Snow shovel We've shovelled snow the past two years with a garden shovel. It's a good thing we don't have a car to shovel out. Seeing as how it's summer, this item may be hard to find. But, if you're looking for a challenge...

Mini-Honeymoon Packages

Immediately after the wedding we'll be taking our 4-day "mini-honeymoon" (the full-fledged honeymoon is happening for a month in December. See below). As gifts, we're offering up parts of our mini-honeymoon. We're leaving from Tobermory and planning to hike about 75km of the Bruce Trail from Dyers Bay to Wiarton. This is some of the prettiest section of the trail, which follows the Niagara Escarpment from Tobermory to Niagara Falls (Bruce Trail).

Right now some of our hiking friends are probably reading this thinking "we know how quickly Dustin & Mich can hike, and there's no way they can cover 75km of cliffs in 4 days!" That's where you're wrong. On this luxury hiking trip we're being picked up at various points on the trail and driven to Bed and Breakfasts where we'll dine on a nice meal, sleep in a comfortable bed, wake up to breathtaking views and a sumptuous breakfast, and get driven to the next point on the trail where we'll be handed a packed lunch, ready to continue hiking. Not exactly roughing it, but it definitely makes us move more quickly, and hey, it is our honeymoon!

If you'd like to buy one of these packages, pick the one that is the most interesting to you, and click the 'Buy' button. You don't actually have to make any of the trip arrangements... just find an interesting way to present the gift you've purchased (ie. present your cash or cheque with some flair!)

Package Picture Description Price Taken?
Dyers Bay to Lions Head After being dropped off on trail at Cape Chin South Road (thanks mom & dad!), we'll hike 15.7 kilometers along the Escarpement to the town of Lions Head. Here we'll be picked up and driven to the Lofty Heights B&B, where the proprietor is known for her full dinner, breakfast, and packed lunch. She specializes in Thai, Chinese and East Indian cuisines. Mmmm. $85
Lions Head to Hope Bay We're going to skip a little of the trail as it loops around Lions Head, as we've hiked this section while searching for climbing routes. (Our climbing friends might want to check these out - drop down from the belay station at the top of the cliff down towards the water, then climb back up. We didn't try any, because its not clear what you do if you can't get up..)

We start at Scenic Caves Road, and hike 15.2 kms to our evening's stay at Cedarholme cottages. After dropping our bags we hope to do another 12km around Sydney Bay Bluff, which is on one of the Indian Reserves. Our bed and breakfast doesn't serve dinner (and there's nothing within walking distance), but our gracious host Lynn is going to let us use the barbeque for our evening fry-up.
$88
Hope Bay to Colpoy Bay At this point in the trip we'll know better how much ground we can expect to cover in a day. Our plan is to get dropped off on the far side of Sydney Bay Bluff and hike 22.8 kilometers to Colpoy Bay. But our hosts may know better - Lynn at Cedarholme cottage will be speaking to the propiator of the Parke House in Colpoy's Bay, and they may arrange a drop off and pick-up for us!

We're planning for some tough but beautiful hiking over Jones Bluff and along Colpoy's Bay. Hopefully right to The Parke House, which is a centrury home with panoramic views of Colpoy's Bay - right on the Bruce trail.

We're very excited about the breakfast suggestions that they provide - pears extrordinaire, orange scones, blueberry and cream french toast, lemon ricotta pancakes with rhubarb sauce, and "chef's mood breakfast"!
$85
Romantic Dinner in Wiarton Colpoy Bay is near enough to take a taxi to Wiarton for dinner. We don't know where to go for dinner, so if you select this gift, you'll need to make a restaurant suggestion for us. Do you have a favourite restaurant in Wiarton? This is the last night before we go back to work, boo hoo. approx $30
Colpoy's Bay to Wiarton The last leg of the trip is only 14.8 kilometers of easy terrain into Wiarton. We'll take our time, then enjoy an ice cream cone in Wiarton. Thanks again to mom and dad who will be picking us up! $5

Honeymoon Packages

Looking for a gift that's really out of the ordinary?

Like our mini-honeymoon, we're also raffling off parts of our honeymoon. We're planning to spend the bulk of our one-month honeymoon in Laos, with a bit of time in Thailand and Cambodia. We hope you enjoy reading through the package descriptions as much as we enjoyed compiling them. Now we can't wait to get going.

The same rules apply. If you'd like to buy one of these packages, click the "Buy" button. You can give your gift as a cheque or cash, with any amount of creative presentation.

Package Picture Description Price Taken?
Ayutthaya Elephant Ride This side trip includes a train ride from Bangkok to Ayuttaya, two nights accomodation, and an elephant ride! After spending hours watching elephants in Africa (and one close encounter), Micheline is keen to try riding one. Dustin is old hat at this after his ride on Ahnee last time he was in Ayuttaya. He's looking forward to returning to what he calls "the best restaurant in the world". $47
Chiang Mai The sleeper car from Bangkok to the mountain town of Chiang Mai will take 14 hours first-class, but its still only 30$. Once we're there we plan to relax in the mountains and check out the night market. Micheline is excited about the spicy curries made without coconut milk to make them spicier. A tuk-tuk ride around the city and a night's accomodation round out this package. $65
Golden Triangle The Golden Triangel is the famous attraction where the borders of the three countries; Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet. From this place, Laotian and Myanma border can be seen through Mae Khong and Ruak River respectively. This package takes us by bus to Chiang Khong on the Thai side, where we will spend the night, then cross the border into Laos. $23
Slow boat ride down the Mekong Laos is supposed to be the greener, slower, more easy-going neighbour to Thailand. We start our visit to Laos with a slow boat ride down the Mekong river. This package includes a three-day boat ride, and two nights of accomodation along the way. We're looking forward to the views of villages, limestone cliffs, and the occasional forest, ending up in the town of Luang Prabang where we'll be setting up base camp. $58
Laotian Cooking School We've given up trying to learn the language, but we do know one Laotian word "vegetarian" (more specifically "I only eat vegetables, eggs are okay"). However, given the loose interpretations of vegetarian, we're not sure we'll always know what we're eating. The guide book tells us that some specialities are dried, seasoned river moss, finely minced fish blended with chilli flakes and sticky rice, fermented rice wine served with long reed straws, balls of cooked rice mixed with sour pork sausage and fried, and green bananas pounded whole (including skin) with chillies, lime juice and fish sauce. But this is one night when we'll know exactly what we're eating - at our Laotian Cooking class! Thanks also for the accomodation in Luang Prabang that we'll roll home to. $27
Wat to do in Luang Prabang? - Temples! Wat to do in Luang Prabang? Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Wisunarat, Wat Aham, Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham, Wat That Luang, Wat Manolom, and Wat Xieng Muan. Wat in Laos means "temple", and Luang Prabang has 66 of them. Almost half of these are occupied by orange-wrapped Buddhist monks and novices, and we're going to take a stab at seeing as many of them as we can. This package includes accomodation in Luang Prabang, entrance to several temples, and a boat ride across the Mekong to Ban Xeing Maen for, you guessed it, more temples. $38
Sauna & Massage A traditional herbal sauna and hour-long Sweedish-Lao massage costs only $4 US. I'm going twice! This package includes accomodation in Luang Prabang as well. $22
3-day trekking trip I'm going to quote directly from the guidebook on this one: "Tiger Trails organizes multiday trips involving trekking, rafting and cycling - or a combination of these - on trails and rivers around Luang Prabang. A typical excursion involves pedalling from Luang Prabang to a put-in point on the Nam Khan, Nam Ming or Nam Pa, followed by whitewater rafting downriver to a pick-up paint. Longer trips go as far north as Muang Ngoi or Muang Khua and include elephant riding. More elephants ... weee! $116
Caves and Villages This day trip outside of Luang Prabang has us hiring a boat on the river and riding down to the Pak Ou Caves. These caves are in the lower part of a limestone cliff facing the river and are crammed with Buddha images of all styles and sizes. On the way back we plan to ask the boat to stap at some of the local villages, in particular the Jarmaker village for some artifacts. Day trip includes accomodation. $29
Tat Kuang Si Falls To visit the Tat Kuang Si Falls we plan to take another boat from Luang Prabang. The falls themselves are many-tiered and fall into cool, turquoise pools perfect for swimming and lounging about. This package includes accomodation further down at the guest house in the village of Ban Tat Paen. $25
Caves and Cycling This package takes us on a bus from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng. Our guidebook lists a ton of caves around Vang Vieng that are all accessible by bike. Some going through villages, some with rickety bamboo bridges, some with sculptures, some with stalactites, most with springs and cool water to swim in. I think we'll easily spend two days here! $26
River Tubing from the Organic Farm Apparently virtually everyone who comes to Vang Vieng goes tubing down the Nam Song in an inflated tractor tire. It's become so popular that several 'bars' have been set up on islands and beaches alnong the route. The tube-hiring businesses have formed a cartel, with only one allowed to operate on any given day, but no worries, tube prices are fiked at US $3, including the trip to the launch point.

We plan to spend the night before at the Phoudindaeng Organic Farm where we can start tubing from. We're looking forward to the great vegetarian food and a mulberry shake (the organic farm raises mulberry trees for silk and tea production, and also grows organic fruits and vegetables). If we don't get a spot at the dorm, there's always the BYO Hammock spot down the road.
$22
Climbing We can't leave Laos without going climbing. This package is a climbing trip outside Vang Vieng near some of the cave. Includes equipment rental, "climbing permit", and a night's accomodation in Vang Vieng. $40
Buddha Park and Massage This package deal takes us to the capital city of Laos - Vientiane. We start in the forest temple, Wat Sok Pa Luang, famous for its herbal saunas and expert massage. The masseurs are usually lay people who reside at the temple. After a sauna and massage, you're not supposed to wash away your accumulated perspiration for three hours, apparently to allow the herbs to soak into your pores. Just enough time to a stroll down to the Buddha Park - a park full of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures in a field by the Mekong river. Top it all off with a spicy green papaya salad and a fresh coconut - a bargain of a day (plus accomodation) at $39. $39
Market Trip and Cooking School Laos was once a French colony, and the capital city, Vientian, still has many French influences. Apparently you can get quite good European pastries and French bread. We're hoping to take an all-day Thai/French cooking course. The course starts with a trip to the market to buy the ingredients, some time in the kitchen, and a sampling of our masterpiece. Together with accomodation in Vientiane, this rounds out this package. $42
A night in Bangkok From Vientiane we are flying back to Bangkok. We decided to spend our two nights in Bangkok at the end of the trip, when we've gotten more accustomed to Thailand and all the hustle and bustle. We're going to try to cram as much in as we can - culture, food and nightlife. The trip is coming to an end! $65
Temples at Ankor Wat, Cambodia And finally, the big kicker, the package deal out to Cambodia for 2 days at Ankor Wat. We're told that these are the most spectacular temples that can be seen in Southeast Asia. This package includes two flights from Bangkok to Siem Reap. A bicycle or (if we feel daring enough) motorcycle rental to ride into Ankor. Two-day pass around the temples, and two nights accomodation before flying back to Bangkok. The flights are pricy, but we're running out of time! $346
