How to get there

To Tobermory

From the North

Get on the Trans-Canada Highway (heading West from Sudbury, or East from Sault Ste Marie). Turn south onto Highway 6 (at Baldwin). Follow Hwy 6 for over 100km, across Manitoulin Island, and straight into the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry Terminal. Take the Ferry across to Tobermory. Find your hotel.

From Toronto (or Pearson International Airport)

Take highway 401 West from the airport or downtown. Exit for Highway 410 towards Brampton (exit #344). After about 17km, turn left on Mayfield Rd. Turn right at Hurontario Street. Hurontario Street is Highway 10.

Follow Hwy 10 for about 2 hours - it takes some 90 degree turns, but is well marked. Pass Orangeville, Shelburn, Flesherton, Markdale, Berkeley, Holland Centre, and Chatsworth.

7 kms past Chatsworth, turn left on County Road #18. (If you end up in Owen Sound, then you missed your turn. No worries. You'll have to go through town and look for the signs to Hwy 6.)

Follow County Road 18 until it becomes Hwy 6. (Note: You have to take a right-hand turn to keep following County Road 18 - its well marked).

Follow Hwy 6 all the way into Tobermory. Tim Hortons fans can grab a coffee in Hepworth. After this you can't get lost - Hwy 6 is the only road up the Bruce Peninsula and Tobermory is right at the tip! (see the map on your right) Now find your hotel.

Trip planning notes:

  • If you need to be at the airport to catch a flight, make sure you give yourself lots of time to get back to Toronto - there will be a lot of traffic coming back from cottage country on Sunday evening.
  • Plan your departure time around the Chi-Cheemaun schedule. When this ferry arrives in Tobermory, all 143 cars disembark and slow traffic down along Highway 6. Plan to leave just before it arrives or an hour afterwards.
  • Let us know if you're looking for a carpool from Toronto or from the airport. We'd love to help set you up with another guest and reduce the number of cars driving the same route. Likewise let us know if you have extra room in your car and would be willing to take another passenger.

Dunks Bay Beach (Wedding Venue)

To get to the beach from Tobermory, drive south on Hwy 6 for 1.5 km. Turn left on Dunks Bay Road. Continue down Dunks Bay Road until it ends at the beach (900m).

Park in the small parking lot by the beach. The area in front of you between the posts is the public beach. The cottage on your right (when you're facing the water) is the Manske's cottage. The wedding will be held on the beach in front of the cottage.

Remember - if the weather is poor, the wedding will be held at the community centre (the reception venue).

Tobermory Community Centre (Reception and Poor Weather Wedding Venue)

Head back to town along Highway 6. The Community Centre on the right-hand side of the highway between Nicholas St and Head St. The sign on the community centre will mention the wedding. You can park in the parking lot. If you're planning to drink, please leave your car at your hotel and walk - the community centre is a stone's throw from all of the hotels in town.

In case of bad weather the wedding will be held at the Community Centre. (If it looks uncertain, call 519-596-8830 after noon to hear a message telling you whether we'll be on the beach or at the community centre). To get there from the centre of town, get onto Head Street by cutting behind the Candy Store, the Fish shop, the library or the art galleries. Follow Head street towards the Highway past the ball diamond. The Community Centre is on the corner of Head Street and Hwy 6.
